Question: Why are Painted Buntings so hard to find in Collier County during the summer and fall?
Answer: Painted Buntings are not year round residents here. The Painted Buntings that winter in South Florida and in the Caribbean fly north in late April to breed along the Atlantic coast from around Cape Canaveral upward to North Carolina.
They begin returning to Collier County around mid-October.
