Question: Do all Brown Pelicans have black pouches?
Answer: No. The eastern race has mostly black pouches and the western has a lot of red pouches just at the start of breeding.
Occasionally an eastern Brown Pelican will have a red pouch (far left photo, taken 3/21/06 at Marco) as this one.
This is only one seen here in the last five years. The red fades quickly to dull yellow (near left photo taken 3/30/06).
